Formed in 1972 by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, Steely Dan is a jazz rock band. Their career began with their debut album, Can't Buy A Thrill, which was released the same year and contained he hit singles "Do It Again" and "Reelin' In the Years", which reached No. 6 and No. 11 respectively on the Billboard singles chart. This lead to a cult following and two years of regular touring, before the band decided to retire from live performances, becoming entirely studio-based until they split in 1981. During their active period, however, the band were hugely successful both critically and commercially. Since reuniting in 1993 Steely Dan has resumed touring and has released two albums of new material, the first of which, Two Against Nature, earned a Grammy Award for Album of the Year. The band has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2001, as well as reaching #82 in VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
